Spenser Bower is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois.
Part of his art practice takes reused materials such as crotched items, lace curtains, and tablecloths. He transforms the items into art pieces by mounting them to a surface and using oil paint to paint over the top of them. Using this “lace painting” technique he creates mandala pieces from doilies that spin when mounted on the wall, stained glass inspired lampshades, and multimedia art pieces.
The other side of Bower’s work includes detailed oil portraits and figure paintings that document his life and friends. A lot of his oil paintings portray LGBT spaces like Hollywood Beach or Night Clubs.
